Flipped Classroom in ELT

I hope you are all doing well. This week in our Current Issues course we learned about the flipped classroom approach and our teacher gave us a task to do with a pair which I will explain. My pair was Nazar Gokalp.

The foundation of a flipped classroom approach is the notion that receiving direct instruction or lectures in class is not the most efficient use of time. Rather than in class, students get information outside of class, which frees up time for higher-order cognitive activities. So, in this way, students can select what to learn and have the opportunity to practice it in a better context. However, this can be suitable only for students who have their own technological devices those who have technology may also lack discipline and come to class without completing the assigned tasks.

When it comes to our task, we chose to create a vocabulary-teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom. Then, we decided on 5th grade and the animal shelter unit from their coursebook.

We used Animaker to create our video, it was easy to use but there was a time limit and we had to fit it into 2 minutes. Additionally, most of the pictures and videos weren't free so we uploaded our pictures from the internet. For our video to be meaningful and contribute to students, we prepared an activity at the end of the video that students can scan and access. We used Wordwall to do that.

We selected the photos and videos together and made a fair distribution of the audio recordings. It was easy to add them to the Animaker.
